Petit Verdot - Clone 2
Description: This is the old California Petite Verdot ( clone 2 ) of the 1990s; which is characterized as Vigor=Moderate, Bud-break=Late, Harvest=Late. In the Napa Valley this produces a wine with rustic aromas. Rate this clone with respect to your region.
Clone 2 is in our consulting winemakers' sense making for wines which are a touch lighter than Clone 400. This is a clone for hillsides!

It is true, clone 2, is a bit of a weed as are most of the early UCD selections. Nonetheless it is a solid workhorse from the Napa Valley to Paso Robles. Where I have seen the clone fail is in Sonoma. In a word, rustic.
